Claudia Fontes is an Argentinean artist based in England.
One of the winners of the Parque de la Memoria Award in 1999, her piece “Reconstruction of Pablo Míguez' Portrait” can be seen as a permanent piece on the waters of the Río de la Plata in Buenos Aires, as part of the memorial park built in homage to the disappeared in Argentina.
Her work could be seen at the Frieze Sculpture Park 2011 in London, at The Wordly House in Documenta 13, Kassel, 2012 and in numerous international art fairs since 2013 to this date. Her series “Foreigners” was shown in the Frame section at Frieze New York art fair in 2019.
She represented Argentina at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017 with “The Horse Problem”. In 2018 she became one of the seven artists-curators at the 33rd São Paulo Biennial in Brazil. “Footnote”, her artwork and curatorial text for the biennial, has been recently acquired by the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
Other institutions featuring her work in their collections are MALBA (Museum for Latin American Art), MAMbA (Buenos Aires Museum of Modern Art) and MACRO (Museum of Contemporary Art Rosario). Her work is part of private collections in Latin America, United States, Europe and Australia.
At the moment she is preparing her first solo show in London at Cecilia Brunson Projects. In June 2020 she will take part in the sculpture park at Art in Oisterwijk, The Netherlands.
